A refined Roman coffee house where citizens, officials, merchants, and travellers gather for strong coffee, warm food, and public conversation beneath stone arches and painted walls.
Domus Caffae is a respected urban coffee house set within the life of a Roman city, where daily routine, politics, trade, and social ritual meet under one roof. Positioned near a busy forum street, the venue welcomes senators' aides, scribes, merchants, soldiers on leave, and ordinary citizens seeking rest, conversation, or the latest news. Built in stone and lime plaster, the house is defined by vaulted interiors, mosaic floors, carved columns, oil lamps, bronze vessels, and wall paintings that speak of order, prosperity, and civic pride. Coffee is brewed dark and strong, served in ceramic cups alongside bread, figs, olives, honey pastries, cheese, and warm spiced dishes. Some guests stop briefly before returning to business in the forum, while others remain for long discussions on law, commerce, war, philosophy, and the affairs of the city. Domus Caffae is valued not only for its service, but for its place in public life. It is a venue of presence, routine, and reputation, where Rome speaks in many voices across the table.
